Venice, Here We Come!

We had a little glitch on our itinerary this morning, but thanks to harrowing driving from our transfer driver, Mario Andretti-Parnelli, we got to the Naples Centrale train station with minutes to spare!! Seriously! This was another unforgettable Italian travel experience!! No winding, hairpin curves this time. It was mostly freeway, and the tail-gating, lane-changing, craziness was a white-knuckle experience! Scott looked over at me at one point and buckled up (I had done that long before!).
After thanking Mario (may or may not be his real name, but it was fitting!), we figured out which train we were on, got to the right gate and coach number, got our luggage stowed, sat down, and they announced that the train was departing! Phewww!! 5 minutes to spare!! Now we have 5 hours to enjoy the ride to Venice!!

We had a transfer "guide" when we arrived, who walked us to our waiting water taxi and rode with us to our hotel. It is quite a different scene outside the Venice train station. No cabs...just water taxis!

I wonder if everyone who arrives in Venice for the first time had to stand up in the water taxi and check out the view?!

Once we found our hotel, Dan and Lori headed off in search of the local Urgent Care, as Dan's ear situation had not improved.

After navigating their way through a massive hospital complex, they were finally able to find the Urgent Care (I.e. "First Aid") center. They moved through the system pretty efficiently, got a diagnosis for a double-ear infection, and were off to the pharmacy to pick up a prescription for an antibiotic. Total cost was $43 for the Urgent Care and $7 for the prescription.
While Dan and Lori navigated the Italian Health Care system, Scott and Gayle wandered in Venice, ending up in St. Mark's Square. We had an Apertif, then met up with Dan and Lori and headed to dinner at Ristorante Antica Sacrestia, which was tucked back in a quiet neighborhood and was fabulous!

Our walking tour should be interesting tomorrow, as Lori is still interpreting everything for Dan! He better tip his guide well after this!!
