If you’ve ever dreamed of lacing up your boots and hiking straight into a postcard, the Peruvian Andes are where that fantasy can come to life—complete with soaring peaks, ancient trails, and the occasional curious alpaca photobomb!

When we started planning our trek, we were really focused on the physical part of the journey, and seeing Machu Picchu, of course. Little did we know that we’d be embarking on a full-blown adventure through history, culture, altitude, and some of the most jaw-dropping scenery on the planet. Whether you’re gasping your way up a high-altitude pass (blame the thin air, not your fitness) or chasing the sun over Machu Picchu, the Andes offer the kind of epic experience that makes your legs ache and your soul sing.
With the help of the great folks at Explore Inca, our Peruvian adventure was all that we had hoped for, and so much more!
While we had originally planned to do the 4-day Inca Trail Trek, some last minute changes to our itinerary brought us to a combination of trekking through rural villages in the Andes Highlands on the Lares Trek, and doing a portion of the more famous Inca Trail. We couldn’t have been more pleased with the change, as it gave us the opportunity to experience the people and culture of the highlands in an unforgettable way!
Start the journey with us in our next blog post “Lares Trek in the Peruvian Andes - Day 1”
